About the Tule Basin Land & Water Conservation Trust:
Founded in 2019, the Tule Basin Land & Water Conservation Trust was created by local landowners, conservationists, farmers, and water managers who have a passion for conservation and a commitment to supporting the local economy and community. The Trust was launched to support local landowners in making decisions on how best to manage their land and water to achieve local groundwater sustainability. Since its founding, the Trust has worked in collaboration with local irrigation districts, groundwater sustainability agencies, other conservation organizations, and nonprofits, as well as wildlife agencies, to achieve its mission. The Tule Trust board is made up of seven directors:
Three members must own, or lease irrigated ag land from Pixley Irrigation District GSA within the Tule Lake Basin.
Two members must meet one or more of the following:
Have past or present experience & demonstrated expertise in habitat conservation program management or land management,
Academic experience and knowledge in plant or animal biology or ecology,
Past or present experience and demonstrated expertise in farmland or open space preservation activities, or
Past or present experience and demonstrated expertise in management of federal, state, or private grant applications and implementation activities.
Two members are considered “at large” and must meet the qualifications of demonstrating a general interest in the successful fulfillment of the purpose of the Trust.
Vacancy:
The current available seat is for an “owner or lessor/operator of irrigated agricultural lands located within the jurisdiction of Pixley Irrigation District, Lower Tule Irrigation District, or Tri-County Water Authority GSAs.” Director to fill the remaining portion of the four-year term, which expires April 15, 2028.
Committment:
The Board of Directors meets the third Friday of each month from 12 noon until 2pm at the Tule Trust office located at the International Agri-Center, 4500 S. Laspina Ave., Room 103, Tulare. Zoom options are available. Board members also hold seats on various committees which meet at least quarterly.
